Masseria del Pino is a small-production winery located in the heart of Sicily’s Etna region. Founded in 2005 by Cesare Fulvio and Federica Turillo, a former airline pilot and archery instructor, Masseria del Pino focuses on site-specific cuvées produced from organic and biodynamically farmed fruit. The duo’s two hectares of terraced, pre-phylloxera vines (120 years old!) are located at soaring elevations of 800 meters and are rooted into volcanic soils. Fruit for ‘I Nove Fratelli’ is hand-harvested and sorted in the vineyard, crushed by foot, and fed into volcanic rock tanks by gravity. The juice ferments with indiegenous yeasts for 20 days and is aged in old oak barrels for 15 months. Ashy, soil-driven, and smoky, this delicious and savory red is perfect for pizza, pasta, or simply popping on its own.
