Located in the heart of Pauillac, this ‘second wine’ from the legendary Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste is an absolutely killer alternative for Left Bank blends on a budget. Fruit for this cuvée comes from 55 hectares of vines rooted into one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious appellations and is vinified by Francois-Xavier Borie, who has run the show at GPL for decades. This cuvée is Cabernet dominant (70%) rounded out with Merlot (25%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). The wine ages in 30% new French oak for 14-16 months, leading to a supple and traditional expression of the region. Flavors of cassis, red fruits, leather, cigar box ,and cedar dominate this medium-bodied stunner. Drink now or lay down for 5-8 years.
