Unlike neighboring wineries focused on sweeter styles of wine, Lauer has become synonymous with pure and precise bone dry bottles of Riesling from some of the Saar’s best vineyard sites. Fruit for ‘Fass 11’ comes from Schonfels, one of the three Grand Cru sites that Florian Lauer farms (‘GG on German wine labels denotes that wines are ‘Grand Cru’ and dry). Vines in Schonfels are over 100 years old, ungrafted, and planted on staggering hillsides. The wine shows complex aromatics of white peach, smoke, and white flowers, leading to a racy palate marked by laser-like acidity and powerful structure.
