Widely regarded as Piedmont’s greatest producer of Barolo, Giacomo Conterno founded the regarded estate in the early 20th century, producing world class Nebbiolo across 16 hectares in Serralunga d’Alba. Fruit for ‘Monfortino’ comes from the Cascina Francia cru, produced only in exceptional vintages. Fruit ferments for 3-4 weeks in wooden vats, followed by minimum 7 years of aging in large casks. The 2008 vintage is insanely balanced and perfumed, with aromas of rose petal and citrus dominating the nose. Full-bodied, with tightly knit fruit and structured backbone. Fruit comes from one of Conterno’s latest harvests ever, giving a juicy concentration to the wine. Drink now or continue to age.
